Presidential Notes: Our June meeting is promising to be jam packed with lots of activity and good food, to boot. Of course, this is our annual picnic so we’ll be enjoying those burgers that Larry grills so well. A reminder to Roger, Johnny, Cindy and myself that we agreed to bring a dessert, so start planning what kind you or your loving spouse will be preparing. The rest of you will bring items to go along with those burgers.
Peter Garrett will be doing our demonstration on using Inlace®. It’s a wonderful way to fill in those cracks that you wish hadn’t appeared, or I hear you can actually use it on purpose to accentuate platters, bowls, etc. Whichever the case, we look forward to Peter’s demo.
We will also be having a wood and tool swap. I know you have duplicates around the shop or perhaps you make your own tools and would like to sell the prototypes, and this will be a great opportunity to get rid of (no, no—to pass on) some of your treasures to someone else. If you have wood that is ready to turn, bring that, too. We have some members who aren’t able to chain saw or band saw their blanks and would appreciate some “ready to turn” stock. Be sure to put your name and a price on each piece. And remember, the club will claim 10% of your sales profits.
A big “Thank you” to Johnny Farmer for getting our guest demonstrators lined up. I really enjoyed Marion McDaniel’s demo last month on turning rabbits and snow men. Although I haven’t tried either one yet, I look forward to doing so.
Looking ahead to our July meeting, we’ll be introducing our first try at a “Block Party” turning. Members who wish to participate will be asked to bring a ready-to-turn piece of wood and that piece will go into a drawing. Whoever gets the block will turn it for the August meeting. During that meeting, the piece will be returned it to the original person who first brought the block. This is a great way to exchange turnings with other club members.
I look forward to seeing each of you Saturday. It’ll be a big day so make a list of all the things you have to bring. Keep turning.
