The May 2009 meeting of the Brazos Valley Woodturners was called to order at 9 AM by president Janice Levi. There were 20 members present and 2 guests.

Announcements:Tom Dean has been told by his doctors that he is cancer free.

Dick Francey is still in the hospital and has been quite sick. We have a card for everyone to sign and please stop by to see him if you can. He may be going home soon.

We still have sealer for $12.00 a gallon, see Bill Meador after the meeting.

Tom Rezach has a truck load of Ash and Silver Maple for anyone that wants some.

Charles Lewandowski has oak and elm.

Bill Meador has Cedar Elm.

James Norton has platter blanks.

Marion McDaniel has mesquite that is 4” in dia. and a foot long for $10.00.

June is our annual picnic. Bring your tools and wood that you would like to sell. For every $10.00 that you sell we ask that you donate $1.00 to the club. Janice ,Roger,Johnny and Cindy will bring dessert for the picnic and the club will provide every thing else.

Our July Shop Crawl will be in Harker Heights . Tony Kosta will bring his lathe.

SWAT is the first weekend in October in Wichita Falls.Janice Levi will be doing a demo on Turning Backyard Pine. She will be doing this demo for the club in August.

We have a flyer from Jet offering $500.00 off on certain lathes.

There is also a flyer on spalting your own wood.

Maynard has talked to TSTC and they are interested in hosting our club at no charge.

South Texas Wood Turners are turning flying saucers and it was suggested that we try this.

Charlie Lewandowski told us about the Apple Tree Bazaar the first weekend in November. It is for people 50 and older and their handmade products. Entry fee is $40 or $45.00. It was suggested that he check and see if we could do this as a club.

New Business:

Matthew Hill is available for one on classes for $425.00 a day. A motion was made by Ken Mays and seconed by Ed Jarvis that we try to get him to come to Waco.

Safety Minute:

Charles Lewandowski went over safety and the head stock.

Our program was presented by Marion McDaniel who is on the SWAT board and belongs to Southeast Oklahoma Woodturners and other clubs. He showed us how to make bunny rabbits. A great demo that was enjoyed by all.

We have two new members today : Bennett Sherman and Marion McDaniel. Welcome to both .
