MEETING MINUTES 3/14/2009

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 9:10 am by President Janice Levi in the shop of Bill Meador.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
We have 28 paid members; if you haven’t paid your dues please see Jan.

The sealer is here and you can purchase yours after meeting.
Charlie has pear wood and osage orange. Bill has cedar elm to cut and Dan from San Antonio has wood and tools for sale.
If you want to demo at SWAT you can register on line, time is running out.
SWAT & AAW DVD’s are now available to check out for viewing.
AAW grant was not approved. We will wait to find a meeting place before deciding what to do about lathe.
NEW BUSINESS:
The President challenge for April is to make a weed pot.
There was a discussion about a new challenge exchange and block party. It was decided to try each one in a different quarter this year.
Tony has acquired Harker Heights Rec Center for meetings at no charge. We will do our shop crawl in July there to see how it works out. Maynard and Bill will check out Lowe’s, Home Depot, TSTC and Temple schools.
Our guest turners are paid 30 cent a mile and a $25.00 gift certificate at this time. New idea is to pay them a flat $75.00 and as usual an offer of a members house to stay in. A motion was made by Bill Meador and seconded by Tony Kosta to adopt this idea. The motion passed.
Keeley asked about cold drinks; they are exploding in her garage and no one is drinking them. It was decided that we would have water only from now on. Keeley will not be at the meeting in April and Ed said he will bring donuts.
The guest turner for April is Dan Henry from Dallas and for Sept . Bryan Evans from Dallas.
There is a new wood store in Waco. Dakota Hardwoods has opened on Imperial Drive.
Bill read of a list of tapes that are out and need to be returned.
Maynard informed us that Nick Klaras is at MD Anderson receiving cancer treatment and asked us to sign a card and keep him in our thoughts.
Our guest were introduced: Peter Garrett ,Bennett Sherman and Dan Keierleber.
SAFETY MINUTE: Tom Rezak gave the safety segment about using a band saw.
