BRAZOS VALLEY WOODTURNERS
MINUTES, 2/14/09
PRESENT: 4 guests, (I didn’t get a total count, but a lot)
CALLTO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order in the shop of Rom Rezach in Robinson at 9:00 am by Janice Levi, president.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Members were reminded to pay their dues if they had not yet done so. We began the meeting with 22 paid members and 5 more paid.
Anyone who might be having trouble getting their newsletter are asked to let Larry Walrath know.
We were glad to have Tom and Jan Dean with us. Tom is getting stronger each day and he’ll soon be back to turning.
OLD BUSINESS:
A complete set of SWAT demonstration DVD’s has been purchased by the club and will be available as soon as Bill Meador, librarian, has a chance to process them.
Logo Wear—Jan and Tom Dean will bring club logo wear that was order several months ago to the March meeting.
End Grain Sealer—Will be available at the March meeting for $12 per gallon. You will need to bring your own container, such as a gallon gasoline can.
Tool Handling classes—The classes continue to be filled and we have members signed up for the February class.
NEW BUSINESS:
New Meeting Site—Our group continues to grow and we are looking for a new meeting site. One possibility is the Recreation Center in Harker Heights.
SWAT Demonstrators—Anyone wishing to demonstrate at this year’s SWAT symposium in Wichita Falls will need to fill out an application blank. They are available on line or several sheets were available at the meeting.
New club lathe—We have not yet heard from AAW as to whether we have been approved for the grant to purchase a club lathe. Charlie Lewandowski offered to lend necessary money to the club to purchase the lathe, if needed. Tom and Jan Dean indicated that they had an extra lathe that they would consider donating to the club.
AAW Demonstration DVD’s—Are available in two volumes at $25 each. The club approved the purchase of the DVD’s. (I didn’t write down who moved and who seconded)
SAFETY MINUTE:
Maynard Miller introduced a new feature that we will have at each meeting—the Safety Minute. Tom Rezach volunteered to do the Safety Minute for the March meeting.

Tom Rezach demonstrated turning inside/outside vases, a concept inspired by inside/outside ornaments.

EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING
MINUTES, 2/14/09
PRESENT: Janice, Larry, Roger, Johnny, Jan
Roger proposed that we have a “Challenge” turning that would allow turners to make pieces, then these pieces would become part of an exchange at the next meeting. This would allow club members to begin collecting pieces from other club members. Roger will discuss this at the March Meeting.
Janice said that she would revive the “President’s Challenge” to turn pieces that might be unusual or very different from what we might usually turn.
PRESIDENT’S CHALLENGE FOR APRIL
I invite each of you to turn an old-fashioned weed pot, one that might be suitable for holding wild flowers.
